Buzz Guide

What it does

Buzz is a collaboration tool that puts humans and AI agents side by side in the same chat space. It keeps the familiar shape of channels, comments and one-on-one conversations, but seats the agent as an actual teammate carrying real work rather than a helper off to the side. Beyond the messages themselves, it keeps a running record of what stage work is at, what got approved, and how code changed, all in one place you can look back through later.

When the AI hits a point where it needs a judgment call while working, this role lets it ask a person, who can answer or redirect it right there.

When it fits

It fits organizations that want teammates and agents mixed into the same channels, comments and one-on-one conversations, working as one team. It's especially useful when you want conversation history, approvals and code change records to live in one place instead of scattered across tools. Teams need the capacity to set up a Docker-based toolchain and run their own server to adopt it without friction.

When it doesn't fit

Block, the maker, states plainly that Buzz is unfinished and that it isn't a plan to replace humans. It's designed on the assumption that a human stays in the loop throughout the work. It's self-hostable infrastructure, requiring Docker and Hermit, or alternatively Rust 1.88+, Node 24+, pnpm 10+ and just, and on Windows you separately need Git for Windows because the agent's shell tool runs under bash.
