What it does

Paperclip treats multiple agents as a workforce inside one control tool. You set goals and an org chart, assign work to individual agents, then track reporting and budget from the same screen. It goes well beyond a simple task board, covering the pieces an organization needs to run agents at scale.

When more than one AI works at the same time, this role decides who handles what and in what order. It works much like a team lead dividing up work in a human organization.

When it fits

It fits organizations that want to run several agents as a team, with shared goals, budget and reporting lines handled in one place. Teams need the capacity to install and operate their own server to adopt it without friction.

When it doesn't fit

The limitations below come from the vendor's own official documentation, not our evaluation. As of 2026-09-22

Paperclip's maker states the tool isn't needed for a single agent, since it's built to run a team of many agents. They explicitly rule it out as a chatbot, an agent framework, a workflow builder, a prompt manager or a code review tool. It's self-hosted, meaning you run the server yourself, and it requires Node.js 24.11 or newer.
