ego (lite) Guide

What it does

ego (lite) is a macOS-only browser that a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex drives directly. Once you hand the agent browser control, it reads the screen and performs clicks, typing and scrolling without a human watching every step. It runs as a local installed app, with no separate server or remote session to set up.

This role has the AI open websites, click buttons, and fill out forms itself, taking over work a person would normally do with a mouse and keyboard.

When it fits

It fits teams already running a coding agent on macOS who are comfortable granting that agent permission to launch a browser outside its sandbox. It suits repeated tasks on sites where a login session is already active, handled through the actual browser window rather than written as code.

When it doesn't fit

The limitations below come from the vendor's own official documentation, not our evaluation. As of 2026-09-22

ego (lite) currently runs on macOS only, and Windows and Linux builds have no committed release date. It cannot work on its own: a separate coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor has to drive it, and the docs recommend granting that agent full access so it can open the browser outside the sandbox. In the maker's own booking example, the agent stops at the payment page rather than completing the purchase.
