Figma MCP Guide

What it does

Figma MCP is Figma's own official connector that lets an AI agent read a Figma design file directly and use its structure and styling in code. It queries information like layers, colors, and spacing straight from the design file and carries that into screen code. It works over MCP, the shared connection standard several AI tools follow, so it connects the same way across different coding agents.

This role has the AI produce visible output directly, like video, design drafts, or 3D scenes. It turns a script or plan a person wrote into an actual screen.

When it fits

Before relying on it, check which Figma plan and seat type your team is on. It fits teams that want to stop manually reading color and spacing values off a Figma file and retyping them into code. It is also useful when design and development have been talking past each other and you want to close that gap.

When it doesn't fit

The limitations below come from the vendor's own official documentation, not our evaluation. As of 2026-09-22

How much you can actually use it depends on your Figma plan and seat type. The free Starter plan allows only 20 calls a month, and View or Collab seats on paid plans get 6 a month, so regular use requires a paid Full or Dev seat. Which connector clients can even connect is limited to the list Figma maintains itself.
