HeyGen CLI Guide

What it does

HeyGen CLI calls the HeyGen talking-avatar service directly from the command line. A single script can carry a job from avatar generation through rendering without ever opening a browser window. It was built to slot a video generation step into an automation pipeline.

This role has the AI produce visible output directly, like video, design drafts, or 3D scenes. It turns a script or plan a person wrote into an actual screen.

When it fits

It fits repeat production work where only the avatar or a line of copy changes within the same script template. It is useful for developers or operations owners who would rather trigger it with one command inside an existing pipeline than open a screen and process each video by hand. It suits teams that need an unattended setup where nobody has to operate a screen each time.

When it doesn't fit

The limitations below come from the vendor's own official documentation, not our evaluation. As of 2026-09-22

There is no native Windows support, so Windows users have to run it through WSL. Browser OAuth login is only available to Pro and Max subscribers, and unattended or CI use has to supply an API key instead, since device OAuth is refused there.
